10/13/09 - Testimony of Ian Nagata
In June 2007, I woke up one morning with a sharp pain in my lower throat. I had come down with some type of cold I think, but after a week, all other symptoms disappeared except for the pain in my throat. This made it very difficult and painful for me to both speak and sing, which are required for my vocation as a musician and pastor.
After a month, I saw my first ENT doctor, who diagnosed me with acid reflux. However, after 6 weeks of acid reducers, a modified diet, and other lifestyle changes (sleeping with an inclined posture, etc.) the pain still remained. Over the next few months I saw 3 different ENT doctors, including one at a very well established university medical center. I was scoped over 10 times, put through several Barium swallow studies, a CT scan, as well as given several different acid reducers and various allergy medications. None of these treatments were fruitful.
The only thing that helped after 6 months of treatment from these doctors was a two week dose of steroids. However, within a month of the steroid treatment, the pain began to return once again.
In July 2008, I had my first consultation with Dr. Morton Cooper. After meeting with him for a short period of two months, I was free of pain in my lower throat, and was able to both speak and sing without any major pain. My last appointment with him was in October of 2008. It has now been a year that I have been without any major pain in my throat.
Dr. Morton Cooper has been a Godsend. Without his help, I cannot imagine where I’d be right now. He single-handedly has helped to save my voice, and I am incredibly indebted to him for his help.
