RE: Cured of Spasmodic Dysphonia by DVR
Dear Doctor Cooper,
Thank you for calling me this morning. As we discussed on
the phone, I am now sending you this brief summary of my experience
with the totally debilitating condition called Spasmodic Dysphonia
and the TOTAL HEALING of my voice to a point where it is now
absolutely, totally normal.
My voice was very strangled to a point where I could hardly
speak at all. I didn’t even know if the words were going
to come out of my mouth at that time! I was traumatized by
the condition, which is referred to as Spasmodic Dysphonia.
I could not work and I avoided friends because I could hardly
speak at all. My life was a nightmare due to this condition.
So what did I do about this devastating situation? I saw
neurologists. They did not help. I saw psychiatrists. They
did not help. I saw psychologists. They did not help. I saw
the top voice/throat specialists in Los Angeles (at UCLA and
at USC). They both recommended that I should have an invasive
procedure, which involved injecting a toxic material called
Botox into my vocal cords. I understand that Botox is derived
from some kind of toxic mould. I also understood at that time
that this Botox procedure could “perhaps” reduce
my speech problems (Spasmodic Dysphonia): there was absolutely
no guarantee that the procedure would be successful. I also
understood that this invasive procedure could make my voice
worse or that it could leave me with a whispering husky voice.
I also understood that the Botox procedure would possibly
have only a temporary effect on my voice having to be repeated
over time — how many times it would have to be repeated
was unknown. It became clear to me that the medical approach
to Spasmodic Dysphonia was totally inadequate and that tit
seriously risked making my voice WORSE BY PERMANENTLY DAMAGING
MY VOCAL CORDS (by injecting Botox – a toxin –
into them).
At that point I called a top neurologist in London to ask
his advice. He also endorsed the Botox procedure which I had
come to understand as the medical profession’s standard,
RISKY, “not-successful” approach to the very distressing
condition called Spasmodic Dysphonia which caused me to have
very strangled, broken, difficult speech! I could hardly speak
at all at that time.
I imagine that most people would probably have subjected
themselves to the (risky and toxic) procedure, which was being
advised by the medical profession. That procedure (as mentioned
above) injecting a toxin (Botox) into the vocal cords.
I decided to search for an alternative solution to my very
distressing speech/voice problems.
During the course of my search I heard about Dr. Mort Cooper
who is an absolutely excellent voice/speech specialist. Over
a period of time I worked with Dr. Cooper and my speech/voice
is now ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. When I met Dr. Mort Cooper my speech/voice
was strangled, broken, extremely painful and extremely distressing.
It is now ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. I am very grateful to Dr. Cooper
for his help with the TOTAL HEALING of my voice/speech problems.
The “medical” profession’s understanding
that Spasmodic Dysphonia cannot be healed is in my opinion
— and from my own personal experience — totally
invalid. Also; in my opinion — and from my own direct
personal experience — I consider that the “medical”
profession’s endorsement of Botox treatment for vocal
Dystonia is INVALID AND SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS.
I am very grateful to Dr. Mort Cooper for his help. If anyone
should wish to contact me for any further information, they
would be welcome to do so.
Sincerely,
R.P.
R.P. was diagnosed with Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia by
Gerald Berke, M.D., Chair of the Head and Neck Division at
UCLA Medical Center, and Bruce Gerratt, Ph.D. at UCLA Medical
Center on 6/24/99.
